Exciting Developments
The Rex Monday of The Sean Show and A-Ron of Subway State have been hard at work in the past year, toiling away at The Science Club. That lounge has acted as our laboratory as we’ve carved out the sort of music we like to play. It’s helped us understand what works and when. It has shown us what not to do. Sometimes we are joyfully loved. Other times not so much. But when you are carving out a style, this place is one of the best venues for it.
On any given day we may be faced with booth configuration issues, missing cable, screwy sound system, feedback anomalies and still manage to sound great. On other days the booth is perfect but we aren’t necessarily as effective. There are great nights and horrible nights. But we have learned.
We have learned that James hates the Hot Chip remix of Amy Winehouse and to never…ever play it again. Keanan loves most anything by Wax Tailor or Nightmares On Wax. And for goodness sake if he or James are having a bad day make the music chill-out-mean and keep it there. Val loves Jill Scott, Lena Horne and Billie Holiday. We learned that if it’s in anyway something you have to be in an altered state to love, Steve already loves it stone cold sober and Marcia has an affinity for Bebel, Tracey Thorne and Esthero. In their days with us, Sadira and Kolina loved every single track we put down. Rae too.
There have been those who were easy to please, and people we still can’t please to save our lives. I’m glad that at least James and Mike come up to the booth to stop us in our tracks when they don’t see a fit for what weve chosen to play…and that they do it sparingly. And who can forget the chefs that reward good tunes with yummy desserts. I love each of them dearly, even the few I have left out of this brief. As Steve says to Rex and I…and our friends…this is our house. I’m proud to say that this is where The Vodka Manx grew up. And I dare say we are ready for more.
While we may not be anywhere close to Thievery Corporation fame, we are starting to get noticed. In the coming weeks, you will be seeing flyers that look much better than the thrown together tripe I’ve been putting out on our respective websites…and if they will do it, we have two people in mind to cooperate on them. And soon, dearies…you will be hearing bigger news.

Congrats. This is very exciting to be taking off. I’ll be your manager if you need. I do business with an iron fist but I’m fair!
