Psychological Disorders Exist

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

After watching this video, you will understand (if you didn’t already) that there are people out there with psychological disorders that need serious help.  I am not trying to be funny.  Watch this entire video and you will see at least 5 mood shifts.

If you know someone with a psychological disorder that is not getting assistance, it’s entirely possible they don’t know help is available.  They may not even be fully aware of their condition.  Don’t let your friend break out into Solja Boy on the subway.  They will thank you later.

What’s That Smell? (My Homegrown Horror Story)

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

File this under “you’re never going to fracking believe this story and no it’s not April Fools Day.”  It’s nearly 2am and I am still awake.  (Not the unbelievable part.)  Why?  I could use a few choice words to describe it first.  Like…agony.  Agony is one of them.  Surprise is another.  Astonishment….  Ambushed.  I am surprised and astonished at the way I have been ambushed into agony.  Ha….

Rewind three days and walk with me to the present.

We recently went to Topsail Beach, NC.  Boo’s mother and her man have a beach house down there.  It’s a lovely place to use as an escape no matter the time of year.  It’s around nothing.  Great place to decompress.  Anyway, we went down on Friday night, stayed in on Saturday due to weather, and hit the beach on Sunday before a long drive back to DC late Sunday night.

I partially grew up in a place where the temperature could (but rarely) hit 110+ degrees.  So it’s no surprise that extreme heat is something I can deal with fairly well.  That doesn’t mean I go seeking it out unless it’s for therapeutic purposes, mind you.  But I mention this because you would think I’d know everything there is to know about sunburn.

Color me wrong.  Well…actually…color me fuchsia.  At least that’s the color it looks like compared to my dark-blue clothing.  Eventually such a color will turn into a nice tan, but for now it simply looks menacing.  Up until tonight, however…it didn’t feel so menacing.

Today went fine.  Work went fine.  I came home and went through the entire night…just fine.  I even got my Dra’nei resto shaman’s bonus healing with self induced buffing up to 2182.  The night didn’t go badly at all.  What, though…should happen as I crawl into bed…but a slight itch!  No big deal, I thought.  Knowing said itch from my sunburnt past, I treated it like I normally would.  I gently patted it with my cold hands and exposed it to the blowing air from our ceiling and table fans.

This goes on for about 10 minutes before I decide to put on some lotion.  So I got up and put on the Vaseline Intensive care with aloe added.  Didn’t work.  Then I tried adding hydrocortizone cream.  Didn’t work.  The itching began to worsen…translating into escalating pain.  Not thinking, I add a clear-green-gel of aloe.  Didn’t do a thing.  Instead it continued to get worse.  It started to feel like a growing allergic reaction.

Most people don’t consider this, but itching is actually a form of pain – which is defined by the medical community as an unnatural state that should not be ignored.  I’ve felt pain.  In fact I had to go through some recently, so I found my percoset (yes) and chewed up (yes) my last 2 tablets and chugged some water.  I was hoping at this point that I could mitigate it with pain medication while I figured out some sort of topical solution.  It didn’t kick in until I started spell-checking this story to post it at 230am.  This all started at 1200am.

After the lotion combo didn’t work I jumped in the shower and cleaned off.  After I got out, I reapplied hydrocortizone and gently rubbed, waiting for the itch to subside.  It then jumped 10-fold.  What the hell?  Anti-itch cream!  Come on!!  All of the sudden my upper arms were on fire.  Imagine your left hand on your right frontal upper arm and your right hand on the other, gently rubbing lotion in an up-down fashion.  Ever so slowly.  Just enough to stop the itch before it returns.  This couldn’t last forever.

So I resorted to shaving cream.  The thick foam with ultra-moisturization properties should do it, right?  Wrong.  Don’t get me wrong, it helped a little but it was certainly not the effect I wanted.  I started to get desperate.  I jumped back in the shower and didn’t use any hot water.  Cycling my arms in and out of the freezing water only did one thing besides give me enough time to think of my next solution: it made me start shaking.

At this point I am near tears.  I’m going to wake the Boo if I whimper any louder.  So I tried another shaving cream and then another cold shower…and then I turned to the interwebs.  I typed in “sunburn itch cure”.  Everything is out there, right?  This must be!  Well I can’t believe it…but it was.  And this is where I get the title for this morning’s post.  Ramble much?

I read about concentrated tea.  Vagisil.  (You read that right.)  Preparation-H.  (That too.)  Pepto-Bismol.  Milk-Of-Magnesia. Oatmeal, which I knew about but wasn’t going to try yet….  Baking soda.  Then something caught my eye which I considered interesting only because a bottle of it was within reach.  Distilled white vinegar.  Spray it on, let air dry.  And it just so happens we have an atomizer on it because we needed it to clean something specific.  So I started.  Spray, stand in front of fan, repeat.

Then I freaked myself out again because I picked up a bottle of vinegar-Windex and did it.  Thinking I made a huge mistake I wet a paper towel and gently patted it off, replacing it again with vinegar.  Then I continued to read the website, noticing that the pain was subsiding, though without the other effects I would normally notice from pills.  Someone else posted that the active ingredient in Windex was also a cure.  So what did I do?  I inadvertently helped myself…and then I started alternating between the two bottles.

That’s right.  I just spent the last 45 minutes spraying vinegar and Windex on my upper arms to get rid of the worst itch I have ever had in my entire life.  As I type this, it’s gone.  Knock on wood or something that looks like it but isn’t!

I hope this helps you.  Cuz I’ll tell you what…I may be a bit tired at work tomorrow, but it worked.  Wish me a restful 5 hours of sleep cuz that’s all I’m gonna get.

Vinegar.  Windex.  And we all thought the dad in My Big Fat Greek Wedding was full of it….

Green Porno

Joe.My.God leads me to WYSIWYG… which oddly enough leads me to Jimbo. And Jimbo leads me to the most brilliant thing I have seen this year. Leave it to Isabella Rossellini. I give you Green Porno. This has got to be the nastiest, most appaling…yet most interesting take on animal sex I have ever seen….
I love it.

Bruce Wayne For President

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

I thought the title was appropriate, considering how I don’t particularly approve of the way this race is being handled. I think we should seriously consider having Batman for President. I could be his vice…err…I mean Vice President. :-D I even practiced my poster pose. How does this look? Looking to the sky, the future, etc. (See left.)

I went to Urban Outfitters the other day and saw several Obama T-Shirts. Then I got a weird feeling in my stomach. I just think there’s something wrong with the guy. There’s something inside of him that upsets my balance in the force. And I only had this validated in a conversation with Mama Jones one night after we were through working at Remingtons. Better the devil I know, I say. And we just don’t know a damned thing about him yet.

You’ll notice that I’ve replaced my background and header with nothing. I just figured it’s time to turn the lights off for a moment. I would love to hear from you with ideas for what to do. In fact…I am not above accepting design submissions. It would be neat to see what you come up with. The problem with that idea is that I’m not nearly that popular that anyone would come up with a design for this here blog. So I’ll probably do one myself. That or I may try to adopt the piece that Boo commissioned from Secret Worm (also known as Rex Monday of The Sean Show) for me for Valentine’s Day into a site design. (See right.) Sean has quickly turned into my favorite artist next to Mark Rothko. You can see a lot of his work by visiting the Secret Worm website or going to The Sean Show…but another great source of all things him is his Flickr page. If you go there now, you’ll see some great examples of his work at Art-O-Matic in Washington, DC.

Speaking of letting someont step in and awaken my design…. It would seem that Joe.My.God has decided to take a short break from blogging, letting a fellow Aaron write in his place for the time being. What a great idea! And before you take that the wrong way, I am simply saying that it’s an interesting turn for a popular blog such as Joe’s to take. The first post Aaron put up was to ask what everyone likes about Joe. Cue audience, “awwwwww!!” I’ll tell Joe one thing. Stepping away from the blog is therapeutic. What’s interesting is to see who shows up out of the woodwork to say they missed your writing.

Back to designers…. Another great designer I know is my friend Cat. But she doesn’t have a website so I can’t show you her work. I am bugging her about that when I can. However…another designer you could say is burgeoning in his career is Gary Bacon. He is author of PixelTalent and FanBoyCountdown, but also can be found on Pownce, Twitter, Shelfari. Check him out. Another one I know…is Brian Johnson. Like Bacon, he also recently went into business for himself, as LoudestInk LLC. Check him out here.

I’ll be making a better effort to pop in random posts like these for you in the future, but now I am spent. I am at the beach attempting to withdraw from the tech world, so this is all ya get. But to sum life up really quickly…I start my thesis in June – for real real, not for play play…fellow drum & bassist DJ Insom is moving away and sold me his DJ setup, so I’ll have a proper way to spin vinyl again soon…Boo and I are going to the UK to visit my family in December… we are throwing a party in June…Science Club is going well…I’ll be in Vegas in July for work…and look at that it’s 11:30. Time for a beer.

I WILL Make A Comeback

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

Can’t begin to tell you how much I miss having the energy to write
here. Even more, the concentration to crank out more music and finish
the tracks I’ve started. Have to do something about that. Oh if I
could do that full time and make a living….
