SubwayState-O-Scope #5 – The Last Day Of Work

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

This post was written one year ago about my last day at my previous job.  When I re-read it…I actually don’t miss it one bit.  And I chuckled a bit when I read that this was written while hung-over by the hands of The Rex Monday.  Enjoy.

“I’m a resonable man.  Get off my case.  Get off my case.”  “After years of waiting…nothing came.  As your life flashed before your eyes, you realize you’re looking in the wrong place.”  – “Packt Like Sardines In A Crushed Tin Box” by Radiohead.

Radiohead’s ‘Amnesiac’ album was the only album I played on repeat day after day here in the office, even after my former former boss’s boss’s boss told me I couldn’t listen to music at my desk.  He is one of the only people in my life I truly feel sorry for deep inside.  But no, nothing from that album made it into the shuffle today.  It’s only fitting that I listen to the album at my desk one last time….

Wednesday Morning Madness

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

You’ll notice I currently lack witty titles.

710amEDT. I miss a bus. I note the time. Not mad. Time to take a random snapshot of the morning. Bet it was supposed to be the 704, but which one is it? No real way to tell at this point. Wasn’t standing around until now. I had taken the chance to view a new Wii game called “Marble Mania”? The word ‘bait’ doesn’t even begin to describe what it does to you. Remember “Marble Madness”? Add endo with a sprinkle of keto and there you a have it. 5 Stars.

712amEDT. Not In Service Bus.

713amEDT. Not In Service Bus.

719amEDT. Hold on a minute. This one…is either the 704…or it’s the 731(734? Fact checking schedule asap.) In any case there is no ‘between’ time for those buses on the schedule. I can understand approximations to a fine degree, but I assure you on a hunch that this isn’t the way for it to be properly applied.

Has anyone ever done an audit of yearly activity and demographic growth that would assist in analyzing the average behavior of a public transit device? They say there are tracking beacons in each vehicle. But are there corresponding data sets collected, such that there is relevance enough to draw a conclusion of mismanagement?

Oh…well I suppose if there was, we certainly wouldn’t hear about it…or would we? People are either going to draw the conclusion that we just don’t have a great system down yet, or blame manegement and get rid of them, or let it go mandated by some sort of governmental force but only in emergency…or they will blame drivers who just haven’t adjusted properly with their schedules.

I don’t think there is any part of our public transportation that acts right bu the subway system. Despite what people think, it is a fine oiled machine compared to the bus system. The way they handle their shit, you would think the bus system would be hell -bent at looking just as good an option or better.

Juuuuust a thought.

Now THESE are some words of wisdom, America.

So I Lost The Beach Day 3 Post

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

It was nothing, really…but gave a good rant about our house alarm going off again. While we’re in NC ;-) And no it wasn’t Bub’s fault. He wasn’t there today.

Here is a photo I just tooled around with. Only a few people will get it.

There. I said it. There is not one person who could have fucked things up more than you have, save certain members of your crappy administration. Why don’t you just do us all a favor and step down?

Wizards & Queens (Beach Day 2)

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

It’s hard to believe that I have already been here for two days. I’ve consumed enough beer to kill a small army and got to try Boo’s mom’s Bahama Mama mix. We just finished watching ‘The Queen’ and I’m happy to say it deserved every piece of positive recognition it received.

I finished reading a book today. You should be impressed. For as much as I write…you would think I read double. I don’t. And it’s not that I don’t enjoy reading. There have just been very few books that caught my eye long enough for me to care what happens. At any rate, do check out Jim Butcher’s series, The Dresden Files. I was reading the series far before it was ever made for TV, so shut it. The books are just…great. Period. The TV show doesn’t do it any deed nearly resembling justice. Shame on the idea-people for not making it a series of movies instead. They could have done so much more with it like that.

The latest installment in the series is supposedly the latest in one of twenty. I certainly hope that if Butcher still has it in him by book 20 he keeps it going. Wizards, like The Queen…have longevity.

Speaking of longevity, I think I’m good on protein for awhile. I had more meat today (shut up) than ever in a single day. I didn’t realize I’d ordered the triple decker at Burger King until I started eating it. And yes, I finished all but 2 or 3 bites. With the chicken fries and onion rings…and a great steak dinner to follow, I just had to take it easy. But I do love those onion rings. Mmmmmm MMMM!!!! If I don’t come back from this trip with an extra few pounds, be surprised.

I bought new games today at a small town center outside of Wilmington. The new Prince Of Persia, Elder Scrolls IV, and Marble…Mania? I think that’s the title. It’s the new done-up Wii version of Marble Madness, which I heart. I also bought the first two installments of Jim Butcher’s -other- book series ‘The Codex Alera’.

Finally, there is a certain feeling inside…that I will come home to change. And I don’t know that all of it will be good. But life, like change, is eternal. If I didn’t believe that, I would be in for surprises the amount of which would stun me to uselessness. Here’s…not hoping…but asking the winds that they be kind.

I am more burned than yesterday…and proud of myself for not logging into work-email. (This is your vacation, damn you.) Here’s to an 8 to 4 work schedule for June & July!!!!!!!! Rock!! We’re about to see A-Ron’s return to the gym with two-time Subway State Guest, Jase. Jase…the man who blogged for two days and gave it up. ;-) *poke*

Day 1 @ The Beach

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

I took plenty of photos, but I will have to wait to post them. Too much effort. This, luckily…takes no effort at all for me in the morning since my hands are so used to working early…. Umm…yeah…anyway.

I am burnt. So I have succeeded in that much. But it was burn damn worth it. I sat on a beach in a chair reading a book and drinking a lot of beer. I…think I died and went to heaven. And to top it all off…I still have the luxury of wireless Internet, so I can play…you guessed it…World of Warcraft.

Last night, my Blood Elf gay warlock with specialties in herbalism and alchemy decided that it was too cold outside and bought a robe instead of wearing that really fagulous wooland elven get-up. And instead of a stein of beer…(I know, sacreligious!)…he now carries either his most powerful of 4 wands, or a neat Arabian style sword and a a staff.

Why does this make me happy? I’ll tell you why, actually. Because when I think about it I know exactly why. Who wouldn’t love dressing up a programmable character? It’s like playing with Ken all over again except this time instead of the normal machismo model body, you get the mythical guy you would screw in a heartbeat if he were real and a voice to match. Oh and he’s quite obviously gay. Rock. On.

Oh and did I mention he actually has ass…in that robe?

In other news, the father and boyfriend of TheSeanShow.net are off to see which men can be best at playing daddy, boy, etc…and I emphasize the etc…at IML in Chicago, IL. And if I recall correctly, the system admin, as it were…for TheSeanShow.net is on a cross country exploration with another pal of ours. Oh and in case I wasn’t clear before, BooDadday and I are at the beach in Nowhereville, NC…a lovely place at which to do what, boys and girls? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Love it.

Now, then…Day 2…it’s 805am and I am deciding which would be a better choice. Beer? Or Coffee? Ugh. Wow…. Chips & Salsa? Or Toast?

I’m stumped. Hold on while I have a beer and try to figure that one out. Be right back.
