Exciting Developments

Monday, April 30th, 2007

The Rex Monday of The Sean Show and A-Ron of Subway State have been hard at work in the past year, toiling away at The Science Club. That lounge has acted as our laboratory as we’ve carved out the sort of music we like to play. It’s helped us understand what works and when. It has shown us what not to do. Sometimes we are joyfully loved. Other times not so much. But when you are carving out a style, this place is one of the best venues for it.

Don’t Give Me That Silver-Lining Bullsh**

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

They say life is full of trade-offs. For every good day there is a bad one. Well tonight, my karma points went up by a million with what I had to go through…so I better have one amazing day coming to me to even it out.

My Provider Is Wicked Cool

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

Everyone, meet Nexpoint. Subway State had a RAID-Array failure yesterday. But I only lost one post because they perform regular backups like any good ISP should. Love that.

So if I find a copy laying around of the post where I dreamed I was going to die, I’ll re-post it. But for now you will have to wait in suspense.

Divine Secrets of the “Gurl, Please…” Sistahood

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

I got this stunning intro to the way some girls are thinking now in their teen years. It happened while I was on the bus. Everything the girl said as I eavesdropped made perfect sense and let me understand that there are girls out there after all…who are looking after themselves.

Happy Monday

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

After this day, I feel great. I’ve tanned. I’ve been hit on…heavily. I accomplished a lot at work. Pretty good set, for a Monday.

Now I am on my way home on a noisy subway. Some kid just made a hilarious vocal impression of Shakira’s ”Hips Don’t Lie”. The same kid also happily admitted to being a C student. I’m not sure how to react to that, but at least he expressed a positive review of Chaka Kahn. (Spell check when I get home.). Remind me to research whether Mayor Fenty actually got control of DC public schools? Cuz reallly…you could make a movie on this city. One where Alfre Woodard plays a concerned teacher or something. Love her.

Why I Killed The April Experiment

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Yeah, it was a great idea. Did it save me money? Oh yes. But why did I not go the full 30 Days?

I realized that one reason I did this was to make it clear to myself that I had any shred of will-power when it came to spending money. I achieved that.

This also just turned out to be a month where, all of the sudden, many things were turned upside-down. Not to mention I have my sister’s graduation & dad and brother’s dual birthday coming up.

I also have extra money on the way soon (thank you, Jase & Bubbles for signing onto the same employer as me) and was running out of the patience to make time to write about anything that didn’t just spontaneously come to mind….so there.

I will however continue the Experimental Zen Of The Day…

If I Had A Camera Near

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

We have a water filter running for the cats. But oh, no. It’s not just a drinking fountain. My little girl, in all her class…also uses it to wash her paws. You may remember this behavior when I mentioned it some time ago. Well that was when she just had a water bowl. Now she can hold her paws under running water just like a real person. So proud. Next thing I know, I’ll enter the bathroom to see her actually using the toilet, negating our need for a litter box.

That’s…why we keep that door closed. ;)

Hot Heads, Hot Chip & Hot Men

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

I’ll try to make this quick. I want to wrap up quite a few lines of thought in just a few minutes.

On Thursday I solo’d as The Vodka Manx, for Rex had a nasty migraine. I was pleased with the music I played and was even more pleased when I found out one of the waitresses has been tryin to get boys to come on Thursdays ;) Chef Thomas also made me the best rice-pudding ever. Picture on Flickr. And then I came home to dinner by Rex. DAMN he can cook.

I got to have lunch with Chrisafer on Friday. So that made my day. I hadn’t see him since he started his job. And I have to say…he is glowing. I actually see a change in his face.

The weekend started rough. I made a great new friend this past week, a co-worker from Amsterdam. I’m very sad to see him go. Pictures of us will be on Flickr soon. I don’t often meet people with whom things just click. So, Q…come back soon or I’m just gonna have to get an entourage and meet you there. F’ing get on MySpace or something.

On top of that, BooDadday has been going through a rough patch with his stomach. We don’t find out what’s going on with that until later this week. In his pain we had words…. So after some house cleaning, a two hour nap…and the feeling of going out again seeming to be too much work, I spent my Friday night inside, up late watching Stargate episodes…and he in the bed.

Went out with Chemistry Lad last night to see Hot Chip. Scott S joined us. GREAT SHOW!!! My wallet screamed a little this morning when I woke up…. But it was worth it. (More on how I’ve said fuck all to the April Experiment, and why…soon.)

Then we went to Remingtons. I sang a couple times. Jon Cass gave me a beer. Mama gave me a kiss. Somewhere along the way John M joined us, though I forget when…I remember crashing for 5 minutes on his chest in the cab. And I have to tell ya, it was like….5 minutes of peace. :) We then ran into Don & Jim at Eagle. I’ll say it again, two really great men who I need to make time to hang out with more.

So to Hot Chip, Crisafer, Thomas, Q, Rex, Boo, Marky, ScottS, JohnM, Hot Mister Bartender Man Jon Cass, Mama, and Hot Couple Don & Jim…..and anyone I may have left off….THANK YOU for a great weekend. I hope to see you soon.
