My Birthday

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

Sorry to all who showed up after 9pm and didn’t see me. Apparently, drinking what people give you for 4 hours catches up quickly, and I made the command decision to come home. Thank goodness the birthday is only once a year, as per my friend Felix. Cuz…goodness if I drank like that all the time I would be a bigger mess. Ha!! To all of you who came out, thank you SO much. It was great to see you!!!!

Happay Berthday Tooo Meeeeeee

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

I turn 28 on Wednesday September 20th. If you are in town, Halo from 530p until! So I thought I would try to think of the past year and highlight some of my favoritist moments…similar to when I left my job of 5 years and reminisced. When I look back on it all…this has to be the most fetching year for me -yet-.
Â

Â

  • First of all, I feel attractive. (Don’t sing ”I Feel Pretty”….) That’s not an easy one. I have always been really hard on myself for how I look, but now I have resolved to stop arguing. Self-esteem isn’t found, nor is it earned. It is acted upon.
  • I have also resolved to not think so little of my capabilities in general. If there is a King of Self Underestimation…it -was- me. No more of that, thanks.Had a great birthday last year at uber-chic lounge with my other two pals Eddie & Papa who are born on the same day.
  • For the birthday weekend I went with my man and had a great time with our pals Novaboi, Eds, and ChristopherLeary.net in New York City. Highlights include seeing Ground-Zero from a friend’s loft….and an acid attack after chugging vanilla rum and coke that forced an emergency trip to CVS where I ate the antacid in line cuz it was so long. Danced my ass off in the clubs harder than I ever have in DC.
  • I won best costume for my depiction of Jack Skellington at CorporateLand’s Halloween party. I should have won for best use of white-hair-spray-paint. Bought myself a neat iPod speaker with the winnings.
  • My partner met some of my family in DC during Thanksgiving. They all loved him.
  • He met the rest of them on video conference at Christmas because we didn’t travel.
  • Christmas night I ‘met’ met The Rex Monday when he handed me a CD while bartending at the uber-chic lounge.
  • Discovered that an old pal of mine opened his own lounge and I began hanging out there regularly…until one day they asked me to take over the DJ booth……the place is Science Club.
  • The Rex Monday and I form The Vodka Manx and take over Science Club’s Thursday nights.
  • Somewhere in there I got to see Jem and John Mayer in concert. Nice!! Going back to the 930 Club again in a couple weeks to see MASSIVE ATTACK!!!!
  • Some of the months following were fuckin hanous…what with surgeries, physical therapies, robbery…. *cough*
  • I left CorporateLand for the new job that has no name yet.
  • Discovered Mackey’s Pub, which serves my favorite beer, Boddingtons, on tap…..right below my new building.
  • I started producing again. (Music….) I even finally chose the song I want to cover.
  • My brother got married, so my partner got to meet alllllll of my extended family except a few. THEY all loved him.
  • The Vodka Manx landed -last-Saturdays- at Science Club. We are nervous as hell for the first ‘Launch’.
  • I am going to NYC again for my birthday this year and I can’t wait.
  • I’ve met more amazing people in the past year than I know what to do with…and I love them all for being patient people with me and my flightiness.

It’s been the most…wonderful year yet. Of course we can never be 100% happy with things…that’s just how life is. But at least we can try for the 90’s, yeah? I feel closer to myself, my man (even if we wanna strangle each other sometimes), my family, my mind…my….body…hehehehe………some of my friends (cuz only the ones that matter stick around and seek each other out, right Rex?), what I think about life in general….

Pretty happy guy. :)  I hope to meet each and every one of you someday if I haven’t yet. And for those of you I have met, I can’t wait to see you again.

The Burned & Forgotten City…

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

It started back in university. I had been taking a set of classes and completely forgotten to attend one of them. It was a creative writing class, the professor of which I had for all of my writing courses. She knew my writing. She always pushed for more. Specifically she always pushed for better, despite the straight A’s. When I left school she told me that my writing reminded her greatly of Tennessee Williams…..
